Retro and Antique Pieces
Surprisingly, I have found several retro/antique pieces at the curb. Sometimes there are small flaws with the pieces. Other times, I can only guess that they no longer suit the individual. Whatever the reason, I adore these pieces and hope you do too.

Victorian Barley Twist Washstand
Those creative Victoria. In the days before bathtubs, hand bathing was common and this little washstand would have been popular. Complete with mirror for checking for grime and candlestick holders for providing light in a time before electricity. Sadly, one of these candlestick holders is broken. The four knobs that protrude from the side of the basin holder would have had curved pieces of wood between them on which to hang a towel. The little shelf at the back would be a place to rest soap or jewelry. A pitcher conaining water would have sat on the base of the stand. No pitcher with this unit.

I wil be scraping the old paint off the wash basin and possibly be replacing the connecting rods that were towel holders in order to revive this little beauty. Sadly, there's not much I can do about the candlestick holder. I found complete versions of this on eBay selling for $200 and up. One with no missing or broken parts, but also without the wash basin was selling for $100 US.

Retro Kitchen Table
I saw a mom and daughter putting this out to the curb and, loving all things retro, immediately claimed it. When I started loading it into my van I noticed that it pulled apart to accomodate a leaf and was disappointed to not see it at the curb as well. When I got it home though I was thrilled to see that the leaf is actually part of the table! Pull the table apart, swing the leaf up on its hinges, unfold it, and push the table back together. It's that easy. A little research and I discovered this is called a butterfly leaf. A lever under the table locks it into either position so that it doesn't pull apart.

Not only has this table been painted, it has been used to paint on as seen by the outlines of other objects on top. A light sanding and fresh coat of paint are going to make this look fabulous.

Nursery/Children's Chifferobe
These small armoires are perfect for an infant's room. Not only does the small size suit the person for whom it is intended, it is downright cute. I love the handles and the fact that there is a gap behind them so fingers fit well.
Dimensions: 81cm wide x 41cm x 141cm tall (32" x 16" x 55.5").

Similar items in good condition that have been refinished sell for $350 and around $500 in original condition (eBay). The paint is peeling on this so I will be refinishing it with a fresh, cheery colour that will suit a child's room. The back has also been damaged so I will most likely replace it, although it doesn't affect the function and is not noticable once the drawers are in. Some drawer bottoms are peeling, but they still work well.

Baetz Brothers Round Side Table
I absolutely adore this little table and had considered keeping it for myself. When I researched the ancestry of this little beauty-in-hiding I came across this information on the Baetz Furniture Company. Done in Louis XVI style, it was made between 1914 and 1920. The word "gilt" on the label indicates that the paint on this table is original. The wood type is possibly birch. A customer informed me that his parents owned a table like this and that the top was covered in smoky glass. The only alterations I will be making to this little table are to the top.

Dressing Stool
I love pieces like this. It has nice lines and is solidly built. There is currently some chipping of the paint, but I will be repainting it and replacing the dated linen seat cover.

French Style Nesting Tables
I realize these scream "old fashioned" and "out of date" but I envision them repainted with new glass tops. I think the detailing on them is lovely. Who wouldn't want these in their living room?

Belevedere Takara Vintage Salon Chair
Not everyone will want a hairdresser's chair in their living room, however I am hoping to detach the back and replace it with two legs similar to those on the front of the chair. I think the result will yield a fabulous retro chair suitable for any living room. The chrome spokes and legs nicely complement the white leatherette. This is an extremely comfortable chair in great condition.
